  54. I. OVERVIEW OF THE IBMPCL3 DEVICE DRIVER
  55.    -------------------------------------
  56.  
  57. This version of the IBMPCL3 device driver should be used for best
  58. operation of the:
  59.  
  60.      IBM 4076 ExecJet II
  61.      Lexmark 4076 Color
  62.  
  63. This driver is for use with IBM OS/2 versions 1.3, 2.0 and 2.1.  It operates
  64. the printer in Hewlett-Packard (HP) DeskJet printer command
  65. language (PCL 3) mode and supports the multiple graphic resolutions, multiple
  66. paper sources, and download fonts available.
  67.  
  68.   NOTE: All workstations should have an OS/2 level of:
  69.  
  70.              XR05050 for 1.3 SE (1.30.2)   WR05050 for 1.3 EE (1.30.2)
  71.              XR02000 for 2.0               XR02010 for 2.1
  72.  
  73.         or greater.  To determine your OS/2 level, type SYSLEVEL at the
  74.         C:\ prompt in an OS/2 window or Full Screen.

  77. II. PREPARING THE IBMPCL3 DEVICE DRIVER
  78.     -----------------------------------
  79.  
  80. When you executed the self-extracting file, OS2PCL3.EXE, the following 6 files
  81. were created:
  82.  
  83.                  SETUP.CMD              PCL3D.NEA
  84.                  README.1ST (this file) PCL3H.EA
  85.                  PCL3D.EA               PCL3H.NEA
  86.  
  87.  
  88. Copy the files listed above to a 1.44 MB (or larger) diskette for ease of
  89. installation as well as to provide an automatic backup.  Do not change
  90. the file names when copying them to the diskette.  If you receive more
  91. than one device driver package, the files provided with each package should
  92. be copied onto a separate diskette to avoid intermixing code or documentation
  93. files from different device driver packages.
  94.  
  95. The driver was partitioned to avoid loss of vital information.  You must run
  96. the utility, SETUP.CMD, provided in this package to reassemble the files for
  97. installation and use with OS/2.
  98.  
  99. SETUP must be run in an OS/2 session.  SETUP will not execute in a DOS window or
  100. on a DOS workstation.  To run SETUP:
  101.  
  102.     1.  Switch to an OS/2 session.
  103.  
  104.     2.  Insert your device driver diskette containing the files listed above
  105.         into the diskette drive.
  106.  
  107.         EXAMPLE: Insert diskette into drive A.
  108.  
  109.     3.  Make that diskette drive the current drive.
  110.  
  111.         EXAMPLE: Type A: and press Enter.
  112.  
  113.     4.  Run SETUP.
  114.  
  115.         EXAMPLE: Type SETUP and press Enter.
  116.  
  117.     5.  SETUP combines the original files into 2 new files.  These files should
  118.         only be copied using an OS/2 workstation.  The driver will not install
  119.         properly on OS/2 if the files are copied using a DOS workstation.  The
  120.         OS2PCL3.EXE and SETUP.CMD files are no longer needed and may be erased.

  136.     7.  If you are using OS/2 version 1.3, continue with Section III.A.  If
  137.         you are using OS/2 version 2.0 or 2.1, continue with Section III.B.
  138.         These sections contain unique steps required to properly install this
  139.         driver.  Jobs will not print UNLESS these instructions are followed.

  142. III.A. INSTALLING THE IBMPCL3 DEVICE DRIVER ON OS/2 VERSION 1.3
  143.        --------------------------------------------------------
  144.  
  145.  
  146.     The following steps must be followed to correctly install the IBMPCL3
  147.     device driver on OS/2 Version 1.3:
  148.  
  149.  
  150.     1.  Your CONFIG.SYS file must contain the statement IOPL=YES for the
  151.         IBMPCL3 device driver to install correctly.  If the statement is not
  152.         in your CONFIG.SYS file, you must perform the following two actions:
  153.  
  154.           * Add the statement IOPL=YES at the end of your CONFIG.SYS file.
  155.  
  156.           * Restart your system  (Press and hold CTRL and ALT and press DELETE).
  157.  
  158.     2.  If the IBMPCL3 device driver is already installed on your system, you
  159.         must do the following two actions prior to installing the new version
  160.         of the IBMPCL3 printer driver:
  161.  
  162.           * Print or cancel all jobs in all queues that use the IBMPCL3 device
  163.             driver.
  164.  
  165.           * Restart your system  (Press and hold CTRL and ALT and press DELETE).
  166.  
  167.     3.  Select the Print Manager program.
  168.  
  169.     4.  Select SETUP on the Print Manager window.
  170.  
  171.     5.  Select PRINTER INSTALL... to display the Printer Installer window.
  172.  
  173.     6.  Select NEW... on the Printer Installer window.
  174.  
  175.     7.  On the New Printer Driver Location window, enter the path where the
  176.         new IBMPCL3 driver is located, then select OK.
  177.  
  178.     8.  When the New Printer Driver Model window appears, select
  179.         "IBM 4076 ExecJet II.IBM 4076 ExecJet II (IBMPCL3.DRV)".
  180.  
  181.     9.  Select OK.  The printer driver is copied to your hard drive.
  182.  
  183.    10.  On the Printer Installer window,
  184.  
  185.           * Select the port to which your printer is attached.
  186.           * Specify a name and brief description for the printer.
  187.           * If this is the printer you typically use, select the Make Default
  188.             checkbox.
  189.           * Select OK to create a new printer name and queue.  If you press
  190.             CANCEL, a new printer and queue will not be created.
  191.  
  192.    11.  Select SETUP on the Print Manager window and do the following steps:
  193.  
  194.           * Select PRINTERS... to display the Printers window.
  195.           * Select the printer (for example, "IBMPCL31") that uses the IBMPCL3
  196.             device driver.
  197.           * Select CHANGE... to display the Change Printer window.
  198.           * Select the printer you have just installed.  (For example,
  199.             "IBMPCL3.IBM 4076 ExecJet II").
  200.           * Select PRINTER PROPERTIES.
  201.           * On the dialog that appears, check that the version number is 1.162b.
  202.           * If the version number is 1.162b, then exit these dialogs and
  203.             continue with Section IV.A, SETTING UP THE IBMPCL3 DEVICE DRIVER
  204.             AND PRINTER ON OS/2 VERSION 1.3.
  205.           * If the version number is not 1.162b, then perform step 12.
  206.  
  207.    12.  Copy the IBMPCL3.DRV and IBMPCL3.HLP files from your diskette into
  208.         the directory containing the old IBMPCL3.DRV file (for example,
  209.         C:\OS2\DLL\LEXMARK\PCL\IBMPCL3).  Continue with Section IV.A,
  210.         SETTING UP THE IBMPCL3 DEVICE DRIVER AND PRINTER ON OS/2 VERSION 1.3.

  213. III.B. INSTALLING THE IBMPCL3 DEVICE DRIVER ON OS/2 VERSION 2.X
  214.        --------------------------------------------------------
  215.  
  216.  
  217.     The following steps must be followed to correctly install the IBMPCL3
  218.     device driver on OS/2 Version 2.0 and OS/2 Version 2.1:
  219.  
  220.  
  221.     1.  If the IBMPCL3 device driver is already installed on your system, you
  222.         must do the following two actions prior to installing the new version
  223.         of the IBMPCL3 printer driver:
  224.  
  225.           * Print or cancel all jobs in all queues that use the IBMPCL3 device
  226.             driver.
  227.  
  228.           * Shutdown your system by pointing to an open area on the desktop and
  229.             clicking mouse button 2.  From the pop-up menu that will appear,
  230.             select SHUTDOWN.  When a message appears that says that the
  231.             system has been shutdown, restart your system (press and hold CTRL
  232.             and ALT and press DELETE).
  233.  
  234.  
  235.     2.  If you are installing the printer driver for use with an existing
  236.         printer object, follow the instructions outlined in section III.B.A
  237.         below.
  238.  
  239.         If you want to create a new printer object when you install this
  240.         printer driver, follow the instructions in section III.B.B below.
  241.  
  242. III.B.A. INSTALLING THE IBMPCL3 DEVICE DRIVER ON AN EXISTING PRINTER OBJECT
  243.          ------------------------------------------------------------------
  244.  
  245.     1.  To install this new device driver on the existing printer object,
  246.         point to the object and click mouse button 2.  This will open the
  247.         pop-up menu.
  248.  
  249.     2.  Select the arrow to the right of OPEN; then select SETTINGS.
  250.  
  251.     3.  Select the PRINTER DRIVER tab.
  252.  
  253.     4.  Display the pop-up menu for any printer object in the window by
  254.         pointing to the object and clicking mouse button 2.
  255.  
  256.     5.  Select INSTALL.
  257.  
  258.     6.  Insert the diskette containing the IBMPCL3 driver into drive A.  Make
  259.         sure that the directory field in the window contains A:\.  Then select
  260.         REFRESH.
  261.  
  262.     7.  Available Printer Driver Objects will be shown in the window.  Select
  263.         the printer driver that matches your printer.
  264.  
  265.     8.  Select INSTALL.
  266.  
  267.     9.  A message is displayed when the driver has been successfully installed.
  268.         Select OK.
  269.  
  270.    10.  Close the "Install New Printer Driver" window.  Select the IBMPCL3
  271.         driver that you have just installed as your default printer driver.
  272.  
  273.         Printer driver installation is now complete; continue with Section IV.B,
  274.         SETTING UP THE IBMPCL3 DEVICE DRIVER AND PRINTER ON OS/2 VERSION 2.X.

  277. III.B.B. INSTALLING THE IBMPCL3 DEVICE DRIVER WHILE CREATING A NEW PRINTER
  278.          OBJECT
  279.          ------------------------------------------------------------------
  280.  
  281.     1.  To create a new printer object as you install this new device driver,
  282.         double-click on the OS/2 system object to open the icon view.
  283.  
  284.     2.  Double-click on DRIVES.
  285.  
  286.     3.  Insert the diskette containing the IBMPCL3 device driver into the A
  287.         drive.
  288.  
  289.     4.  In the Drives window, double-click on drive A.  A window appears that
  290.         contains objects for the contents of the diskette.
  291.  
  292.     5.  Double-click on the IBMPCL3.DRV object.  A window appears from which
  293.         you can select the printer model you want.
  294.  
  295.     6.  Drag the printer model from the window out to an available place on
  296.         your desktop.
  297.  
  298.     7.  Close the windows that were opened as you installed the driver.
  299.  
  300.     8.  To change the name of the printer object, press and hold the ALT key
  301.         while you click on the object name with mouse button 1.  In the name
  302.         field of the next window displayed, enter the printer name that you
  303.         prefer.  Click mouse button 1 while pointing to an open area of the
  304.         desktop to accept the new name.
  305.  
  306.         Printer driver installation is now complete; continue with Section IV.B,
  307.         SETTING UP THE IBMPCL3 DEVICE DRIVER AND PRINTER ON OS/2 VERSION 2.X.

  310. IV.A. SETTING UP THE IBMPCL3 DEVICE DRIVER AND PRINTER ON OS/2 VERSION 1.3
  311.       -------------------------------------------------------------------------
  312.  
  313. The following steps should be followed before printing is attempted
  314. to ensure the driver settings match the configuration of your printer.
  315.  
  316.     1.  Select the Print Manager program.
  317.  
  318.     2.  Select SETUP on the PRINT MANAGER window.
  319.  
  320.     3.  Select PRINTERS... to display the Printers window.
  321.  
  322.     4.  Select the desired printer (for example, "IBMPCL31").
  323.  
  324.     5.  Select CHANGE...
  325.  
  326.     6.  Select the IBMPCL3 printer driver that matches your printer (for
  327.         example, "IBMPCL3.IBM 4076 ExecJet II").
  328.  
  329.     7.  Select PRINTER PROPERTIES...
  330.  
  331.     8.  The next window is titled with the name of the printer you chose.  On
  332.         this window, you can:
  333.  
  334.           * Select the settings that describe the physical setup of your
  335.             printer.
  336.  
  337.           * Select the default characteristics for print jobs.
  338.  
  339.           * Select FORM CONNECTIONS... to specify the forms installed in each
  340.             paper tray on the printer.
  341.  
  342.           * Select DOWNLOAD FONTS... to specify any download fonts you have for
  343.             the printer.
  344.  
  345.             NOTE:  You must purchase either a RAM or Flash memory option to
  346.                    download fonts.
  347.  
  348.         Note that the Driver Version is shown in this window.
  349.  
  350.         After you have completed these settings, select OK to save this
  351.         configuration.

  353.     9.  Select Change on the Change Printer window.
  354.  
  355.    10.  Select OK on the Printers window.
  356.  
  357.         The printer driver setup is now complete.

  360. IV.B. SETTING UP THE IBMPCL3 DEVICE DRIVER AND PRINTER ON OS/2 VERSION 2.X

  363. The following steps should be followed before printing is attempted
  364. to ensure the driver settings match the configuration of your printer.
  365.  
  366.     1.  Display the pop-up menu for the printer object by pointing to it and
  367.         clicking mouse button 2.
  368.  
  369.     2.  Select the arrow to the right of OPEN, then select SETTINGS.
  370.  
  371.     3.  Select the Printer Driver tab.
  372.  
  373.     4.  Open the pop-up menu for the IBMPCL3 device driver by clicking on the
